Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and Gender Based Violence (GBV) Awareness, Education and Support At AWYF, we take a culturally responsive and trauma informed approach to addressing Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). We provide community education, public awareness, and advocacy with a deep understanding of intersectionality and how race, immigration status, culture, and language shape the experiences of survivors, especially immigrant and racialized women. We believe GBV is not just a private issue. It is a community concern that demands a collective response. That is why we are building safe, supportive, and respectful spaces for survivors and allies to come together, break the silence, reduce stigma, and foster healing.

Our Supports Include:

  • Safe Space Support Circle: A peer-led support circle facilitated by immigrant women from the Immigrant Working Group, created in partnership with AWYF, Reseau Access Network, and WHAI Ontario. This circle offers a welcoming and non judgmental space for women and anyone affected by GBV to connect, share, and heal together
  • 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence: Each year, we actively participate in the campaign in collaboration with local agencies including YWCA Sudbury and Reseau Access Network. The annual campaigns help to amplify survivors’ voices, offer education and foster opportunities for systemic change.
  • Culturally Responsive Education & Awareness Workshop We offer free, culturally relevant workshops to schools, community agencies, ethnic associations, faith-based groups, and grassroots organizations. These workshops are designed to raise awareness about Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) through an inclusive, trauma-informed lens. Our sessions are tailored to meet the unique needs of each group and delivered both virtually and in person. Through ongoing education, outreach, and resource sharing, we aim to shift harmful norms, promote healthy relationships, and foster safer communities for all.
  • Referrals and Navigation Support: We help connect survivors with trusted local services, shelters, legal aid, housing, and mental health supports tailored to their needs and cultural realities.
  • Crisis Counselling (By Appointment): Confidential, counselling is available with our trained GBV counsellor To book an appointment please email info@afrowyf.org
