Youth Programs

Crafts 4 Mental Health (CMH) is an art-based wellness program where youth ages 10 - 16 come together to learn, enhance creativity mental health and wellness through arts-based activities. Participants get the opportunity to work with local artists to learn and explore creative beading and Jewellery making, Painting, Hairdressing, Tye-Dye, Crocheting, Basic Sewing, Cooking lessons, Gardening etc.

Sports 4 Mental Health (SMH) is a program designed Participants get the opportunity to relieve stress and improve social skills, mental health wellness through Afro Dance, Salsa Dance, Basketball, Body Movement and Soccer activities.

Our Youth Leadership and Advocacy Training (YLAT) is designed for youth ages 15-24 to gain leadership and advocacy skills, such as goals setting, public speaking, self-advocacy, community engagement and storytelling for change. Participants will get the opportunity to learn about self-identity and engage in conversations about their role in making the world a better place. They will also be provided with vision boarding and creative arts for expressive arts activities. 

This is a mindful space for teenagers and youth ages 13-19 who are registered AWYF members to connect with peers, play games, explore various DIY and arts-based activities to enhance mental health and wellness. They also engage in conversations with Child and Youth Workers (CYC) and Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECE) on conversations around Goal Setting & Vision Boarding, Self-Care, Forming Helpful Relationships, Positioning for Academic Success etc.

 

Some of the available games and activities are Snooker board, Air Hockey, Chess, Ludo, Board Games etc. The arts-based activities include Hairdressing, Basic Sewing, Crocheting, Knitting, Beading, Painting, Mindfulness Jar, Gratitude Banner etc.

All registered members get monthly bus tickets, free hygiene products and free shopping at the AWYF Clothing Bank. Refreshments available at every session.

Our registered members are welcome at the AWYF Community Centre during PA Days, or anytime during our work hours to engage in any creative activities of their choice e.g Basic sewing, Crocheting, Knitting, Beading, Hairstyling, Braiding Painting, Vision Boarding, Creative Arts etc. All materials will be provided.
